Getting started

First time using the app?

01

Choose your music folder

Click the folder icon or the "Open folder" button and select the folder (or drive) where your music files are stored. The app supports MP3, WAV, FLAC, APE, and other common audio formats. Sub-folders are scanned automatically.

02

Wait for the first analysis

On the first run, the app analyses your library in the background to detect BPM, key, loudness, and vocal regions. This only happens once per track. Playback starts immediately - transitions improve as more tracks are analysed.

03

That's it - Auto Mode starts automatically

The app immediately generates a DJ-style playlist and begins continuous playback in Auto Mode. Track selection, transitions, and energy flow are handled for you. If your library contains a mix of styles, Auto Mode works across all of them. To go further, a Plus plan unlocks genre-specific modes and energy control.

Plus - genre modes

How does each genre mode mix differently?

Auto Mode is active by default and works across all genres. A Plus plan unlocks three additional modes that apply style-specific mixing rules for better results when your library focuses on one genre.

Auto

Auto - default for mixed libraries

Active by default. The app applies general DJ rules - smooth tempo progression, vocal protection, and energy flow - without targeting any specific style. Works well with varied libraries containing a mix of genres.

Rap

Rap / R&B - hip-hop and R&B libraries

Optimised for hip-hop, rap, and R&B. Transitions use specialised entry styles: beat-drop entries, echo-out endings, and hype build-ups between songs. Vocal regions are closely tracked so the first words of each track always land clean. Bass levels are perceptually adjusted to account for the heavier low-end typical in the genre.

Lat

Latin - reggaeton, bachata, salsa, cumbia

Optimised for Latin styles in the 82-112 BPM corridor. The app uses Latin-specific transitions and blocks rap-style drops, rewinds, and backspin effects that would break the feel. Vocal protection rules are tuned to the call-and-response patterns common in Latin music.

El

Electronic - house, techno, trance

The only mode that enables beatmix - tempo-locked transitions where two tracks play simultaneously at a matched tempo. The app tightly aligns BPM, ramps the playback rate smoothly over four bars, and applies micro-corrections throughout the overlap to keep the beats in phase. Best results with 4/4 electronic music where tracks share a similar tempo.

Plus - energy settings

Calm Down, Balanced, Heat Up

The energy slider controls the overall direction of the session. It influences which tracks are chosen next - not the volume or the transition style itself.

What does Balanced do?+

The default setting. The app maintains a consistent energy level across the session - no strong push toward faster or slower tracks. Good for background listening, long sessions, or any situation where you want a steady, varied vibe without a clear direction.

What does Calm Down do?+

Gradually steers the set toward calmer, slower tracks. The app applies a soft ceiling on how fast the next track can be, penalises sudden tempo spikes, and prefers mellow openers at the start of the session. Useful for winding down a session, late-night listening, or transitioning from a party atmosphere to something more relaxed.

What does Heat Up do?+

Gradually steers the set toward faster, more energetic tracks. The app favours higher-BPM candidates and applies a penalty to slower tracks so the energy consistently builds over time. Useful for warming up a workout, building to a peak, or lifting the energy of a session that started slow.

Troubleshooting

Common issues

Windows shows a warning or blocks the installation+

This is a Windows SmartScreen warning that appears for new apps that have not yet built a reputation with Microsoft. It does not mean the app is dangerous. To proceed: click "More info" on the warning screen, then click "Run anyway". This only needs to be done once. The warning will disappear as more users install the app and it builds a Windows reputation score.

My music folder is not showing any tracks+

Make sure the folder you selected actually contains audio files in a supported format (MP3, WAV, FLAC, APE, M4A, OGG, etc.). The app scans sub-folders automatically, so you can point it at a top-level music folder. If the folder appears empty after scanning, try closing and reopening the app, then selecting the folder again.

The app starts but there is no sound+

Check that your Windows audio output device is set correctly in Windows Sound Settings (right-click the speaker icon in the taskbar). Make sure the app volume is not muted. Try pausing and resuming playback. If the issue persists, restart the app - occasionally the Web Audio pipeline needs a fresh start.

Transitions sound choppy, have a gap, or stutter+

A brief stutter right after a transition can happen on the first few transitions while the audio engine warms up. If it continues, make sure your system is not under heavy CPU load during playback (close other intensive applications). Very short tracks (under 60 seconds) or tracks with unusual BPM values may also produce less smooth transitions.

The Energy slider or genre modes are greyed out+

Energy control and genre modes (Rap/R&B, Latin, Electronic) are Plus features. They are available with a Plus or Lifetime plan. Click the feature to open the upgrade options, or click the "Free" badge next to the logo in the header to open the activation screen if you have already purchased a plan.

Auto Mode generates the same tracks every session+

The app keeps a session history to avoid repeating recent tracks. If your library is small, you may hear tracks cycle faster. With a larger library (100+ tracks) the variety improves significantly. You can also add tracks to Favorites to influence selection.

The energy panel, pause/play, and skip buttons are temporarily disabled+

This is intentional. The app locks controls for a short window right before a transition starts and for about 10-15 seconds afterward to avoid interrupting a clean crossfade in progress. Changing energy or skipping mid-transition can cause audio glitches or cut off the first words of the incoming track. Once the transition settles, all controls become active again automatically.

What is the large vertical line at the end of the track timeline?+

That line marks the planned transition trigger point - the moment when the app will begin fading into the next track. If you notice it shifting left or right while the track plays, the app is recalculating the best trigger time based on ongoing analysis (BPM confirmation, vocal detection, energy context). This is normal and means the app is actively choosing the smoothest possible handoff point.

What does the Swap button on the inactive deck do?+

The Swap button appears on the inactive (dimmed) deck and lets you replace the upcoming queued track with a different one. If you do not like the track the app has selected as next, tap Swap and the app will pick an alternative. The change takes effect before the next transition starts.

Reporting issues

How to report a bad transition

If a transition sounds wrong, the app can tell us exactly what it decided and why. The Copy last transition log button captures a full diagnostic snapshot - one click, then paste it into an email. Here is how to do it.

01

Wait until the bad transition happens

The log is overwritten after each transition, so act quickly. As soon as you hear something wrong - a harsh cut, a gap, overlapping vocals, a sudden volume jump, or anything that sounds off - move to the next step before the next transition starts.

02

Click "Copy last transition log"

In the app, look for the "Copy last transition log" button above the language selector at the bottom of the interface. Click it once - it copies a block of technical data about the transition to your clipboard, including the transition class, BPM values, key, mode, engine used, and the reasons behind each decision.

03

Open a new email to support

Write a short description of what went wrong - for example: "harsh cut between two tracks", "vocals overlapped for several seconds", "long silence before the next track started", or "sudden volume drop at the transition". The more specific, the better.

04

Paste the log and send

Paste the copied log directly into the email body below your description. Send it to support@mypersonaldj.com. The log is plain text - no file attachments needed. We will use it to identify exactly what the app decided and why, and use it to improve future transitions.

What to include in the email

  • A short description of what sounded wrong (gap, harsh cut, vocal overlap, volume jump, etc.)
  • The genre mode you were using (Auto, Rap/R&B, Latin, or Electronic)
  • The energy setting, if you changed it from the default
  • The pasted transition log from the "Copy last transition log" button
Send transition report

License & activation

Plans, keys, and activation

Each license supports activation on up to 5 devices. If you need to move your license to a new computer, contact us at support@mypersonaldj.com to deactivate the old device before activating on the new one. If you no longer have access to the old computer, we will reset your activation count.

What happens to my Lifetime license if I reinstall Windows?+

Your license is tied to your license key, not the Windows installation. Simply reinstall the app, enter your license key again, and your Lifetime access will be restored. If you run into activation limit issues after a reinstall, contact support and we will resolve it.

What is the difference between Plus monthly, Plus yearly, and Lifetime?+

Plus monthly and Plus yearly provide the same features - the yearly plan is simply discounted. Both renew automatically and can be cancelled at any time. Lifetime is a one-time payment that gives you permanent access to all Plus features, including future Plus updates, without any renewal.

How do I cancel my subscription?+

You can cancel your subscription at any time through the LemonSqueezy customer portal. A link to manage your subscription is included in your purchase confirmation email. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period - you keep access until then.
